11 Ways to Shift Your Energy

Energy always preceded us and the outcomes we wish to create. Our feelings and emotions are energetic vibrations that can be shifted. If you want to shift your energy, know that you’re capable of doing so. Remember that the next time you feel deep rooted emotions, mood swings, or when someone else’s energy sticks to you.
Here’s how you can take control of your energy and shift it in the way that serves you best.
Sound
There are a lot of different ways you can use sound to change your vibration. Some people use singing bowls or binaural beats. But you can simply pop in some headphones and put on a song you love.
Drink Water
It sounds so simple, and it really is. Has anyone ever offered you a glass of water while you were crying? Water actually has natural calming abilities. The act of drinking it can also disrupt patterns of anxiety and flush stress hormones from the body.
Eat Something (Nutritious)
This doesn’t mean stuff your face with food. But certain foods have healing properties. Try eating a healthy snack. Remember, food is energy.
Go Outdoors
We all know that being in nature can positively affect our emotions. Take a walk, spend time by a body of water, or sit under the trees. It’s a sure way to ground yourself.
Connect With Someone
You don’t have to be in front of someone or talk on the phone, but connecting with a safe person (in whatever way feels right for you) can help shift your emotions. Talking with someone opens up the possibility for seeing things from a different perspective, feeling seen/heard, and releasing what’s on your chest.
Dance
Any dance will do, just pick your favorite. Whether you feel like twerking, dancing salsa, or going out to a club, do it! Dance syncs your breath, emotions and physical body so they can all exist in harmony.
Smudging
Use whichever smudging tool you enjoy working with and cleanse your energy and your space. Palo Santo and White Sage are popular choices but I encourage you to try alternatives. Once you’ve cleansed your energy and have a blank slate, invite in the energy you want to receive and experience.
Meditation
It sounds cliché but it’s scientifically proven to be a great tool for altering your energy and emotions. Guided meditations are perfect for someone who’s a beginner or has been practicing meditation for awhile. You’ll be guided to tranquility and a calmer state in minutes.
Aromatherapy
The word therapy is in there for a reason. It promotes relaxation and it’s backed by science. Smell what’s pleasant for you, everyone has a preference. For example, lavender isn’t a pleasant smell to me, but bay rum is. Aromatherapy actually affects the part of your brain that regulates emotions. Use essential oils, light a candle, or try a room spray.
Laughter
Laughing is healing for your body and your mind. Watch some clips from your favorite comedian or browse through some funny memes. You’ll feel a shift almost immediately.
Take a Shower
Or a bath, whichever feels better to you. Allowing water to flow over you or being immersed in it can have so many different effects on you emotionally and spiritually. It can calm you down, promote relaxation, or even spark creativity.
